Plato Sonnet

Plato depicted us, the human race
As prisoners, dwelling in a cave
Accustomed to darkness and adverse to life's grace
Said we needed help to be saved

Shadows are all we know
Until we are released from shackles and chains
And dragged into the light
Crawling and overwhelmed

An escapee would come back
And try to help his friends, left in the cave
But his enlightenment would not be received
And he wouldn't perceive shadows well in the darkness

But the enlightened must try
To save us from the cave
